Crayons to Computers ($108,000 Grant)
Since 1997, Crayons to Computers (C2C) has given hope to needy children by distributing school supplies and other educational materials at no charge. C2C operates a free store serving more than 8,500 teachers in 485 schools with an average of 105,000 pre-kindergarten through grade twelve students in 16 counties in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
The Impact 100 grant will enable C2C to establish a Mobile Service Delivery Program, which will serve 43 Qualify-to-Shop schools (these are schools where at least 60% of the students qualify for the USDA’s National School Lunch Program) encompassing a six county area that includes about 1,300 teachers and 18,000 students who also have less than a 40% teacher participation rate with C2C. The Mobile Store will deliver the most requested and most needed school supplies directly to the teachers and the schools.
Easter Seals Tristate – Building Value ($108,000 Grant)
Building Value (BV) was established in 2004 as part of Easter Seals Tristate. It is a nonprofit building materials reuse center and workforce development program that:
- Provides job training and transitional employment in retail and construction for individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment. 80% of trainees are placed in a job in the construction industry.
- Salvages quality building materials from deconstruction and renovation projects for purchase by the public in BV’s retail store.
- Diverts hundreds of tons of materials from Hamilton County landfills each year.
- Improves the attractiveness and property values of targeted neighborhoods.
The Impact 100 grant will fund key heavy equipment purchases required to expand its deconstruction program and launch a new lot stabilization and maintenance service.
