Project Description

Expanding capacity to turn empty houses into homes by purchasing new and gently used trucks to furnish more homes for families, thereby increasing dignity, supporting productive lives, and enhancing mental and physical development of children.

Grant Award:

With Impact 100 funds New Life Furniture Bank will:

Expand the reach of the New Life Furniture Bank services. NLFB is strategically prepared to increase the number of empty homes to be furnished throughout Greater Cincinnati by collecting and delivering gently used furniture to unfurnished homes of those overcoming homelessness and living in extreme poverty.

Program goals include:

  1. A common concern among client families coming out of homelessness is the lack of resources to make their new house a home.  Furnishing more empty homes of low-income Cincinnati residents each year by collecting more donated furniture and delivering up to 18 items to each household, these families will have a greater chance to lead more dignified and productive lives.
  2. With newer trucks, the leaders of New Life Furniture Bank will be able to evaluate revenue-generating opportunities (social enterprises) that newer trucks afford.  For example, the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio’s fee-based moving and clean-out service to assisted living facilities generates earned income and is a source of used furniture.

Their goal is to furnish 1,000 households of over 2,600 men, women and children in 2020.

Impact 100 monies will be used to purchase two (2) new trucks, one (1) gently used truck, taxes, titles, training, advertising wrap on trucks, and insurance.  Project cost is $100,000.  Cincinnati Enterprise Commercial Trucking has identified the best-configured trucks to meet the needs for furniture pickup and delivery and each truck will be equipped with GPS tracking.
