Did you know that it takes nearly $160,000 to run Impact 100.
Each year, cluster leaders and board members submit a draft budget, with the final budget approved by the Board in December. Spending is governed by our Treasurer and Bookkeeper, with the Finance Committee providing oversight. We formally review income and expenses each month, adjusting plans if needed. Each month, the Treasurer reports the results to the Board.
As you know, 100% of membership fees go to grant awards. However, we need to raise an additional $158,000 to run the organization. Operational fees support the following: Events (offset 45% by event fees), contracted Administrative Support, Technology (new member portal, website, constant contact email tool, textedly, surveymonkey, etc.), Marketing (NPR ads, Movers & Makers, etc., reaching out beyond our own networks for members), Legal/Audit/Insurance, DEI initiatives and Nonprofit Awards (grant finalists’ expenses).
Our expenses for 2024 are distributed as follows:
We raise money for operations by charging for signature events (registration fee covers less than ½ of the cost), corporate and individual sponsorships, donations from members who select a 110% payment, additional grants we apply for, interest earned and endowment disbursements and gains. We can always use more sponsors and contributions toward operations!
How did we get to 4 Grants?
You may also be wondering how we were able to raise exactly $400,000 for grant awards in both 2023 and 2024? The good news is that we had grant money returned from a 2018 awardee that we must use for grants or awards by 2025. In 2023, we raised $397,000 from membership dues and were able to pull forward from those returned funds to cover the $3,000 deficit to get us to $400,000. This year, a similar situation occurred. We raised $385,400 from membership dues and additional donations to the grant pool. Therefore, we once again were able to pull funds ($14,600) from returned grant funds to cover 4 $100,000 grants. That leaves us with close to $12,500 in excess grant funds that must be used by 2025.
