The Washing Well Program
Community Matters exists to remove barriers to opportunity so that we can create a thriving community with our neighbors. The Impact 100 grant funded the startup of a community laundromat in Lower Price Hill community, called the Washing Well. Prior to this facility, residents would have to leave the community to access laundry machines, often spending around 1/9 of their monthly income on laundry access.
By the outfitting of a brand new community laundromat called the Washing Well, they will lease and install washers and dryers, hire a part-time worker from Lower Price Hill community through the social enterprise, and serve 300 families over two years through a dignified laundry space. In engaging the local community, they will connect 150 individuals to other opportunities and wraparound services offered through Community Matters’ Opportunity Connector. Earned revenue from the laundry, as well as laundry bag sales in the community, will help sustain the Washing Well.
