Project Description

Project:
Hip Hop Youth Arts Center

Grant Award:
$108,500

Elementz: The Hip Hop Youth Arts Center was opened in early 2005 and based upon a similar organization in Denver, Colorado called “The Spot.” Elementz works to empower young people in the downtown Over the Rhine area of Cincinnati by supporting the legitimacy and potential of the hip hop arts as a way for youth to learn and grow in a safe environment which emphasizes respect for property and for all people.

The Impact 100 grant of $108,500, paid over 2 years, allows for the implementation of Elementz’s strategic plan. The Impact 100 grant:

  • Expanded the Center’s operating hours from 3 to 4 days a week and from 15 to 28 hours a week. The Center’s expanded hours are from 3-10 p.m.
  • Added an additional 2 hours of staffing training per week.
  • Maintained an average of 75 youth per night through publicity, new resources and expansion of programs.
  • Increased enrollment in Power Players leadership program.
  • Maintained 2 current partnerships and developed 3 new partnerships with community based organizations.
