Project Description

Project:
Healthy Harvest Mobile Market

Grant Award:
$101,000

Freestore Foodbank’s mission is to provide food and services, create stability and further self-reliance for people in crisis.  After realizing that many low-income residents in our service area lack access to fresh foods, Freestore Foodbank created the Healthy Harvest Mobile Market (HHMM) to fill a gap in the regional food web by providing healthy, affordable produce in food deserts. Impact 100’s grant made this new effort possible, allowing the purchase of the customized market trailer, as well as the truck to bring it to each location. Through presenting sponsor TriHealth and a partnership with Produce Perks, HHMM offers a match for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants, increasing availability of produce for low-income families. HHMM is currently in nine locations, supporting hundreds of families each week with healthy food access and resources for additional support in Hamilton, Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties.  In efforts to best support over 250 families per weel, Freestore Foodbank will also use the HHMM as a space to offer wrap-around services by social services representatives once per month.
