There was so much to love about last month’s Meet the Finalist event – the beautiful space, the fabulous food, the record attendance and of course meeting our six incredible finalists, but the part that warmed my heart the most was when Danny Meyer and Victoria Heasley from The Bridge took the stage and shared what it was like being one of the Finalists last year. He spoke passionately about how much the experience meant to him personally, as well as to his organization.
While The Bridge was not awarded one of the four $100,000 grants, they did receive a $10,000 award as a result of our Extend Your Impact pilot program. Listening to how Danny and his team turned that win into a scaled down version of their goal was incredibly inspiring.
Although they didn’t have the money to build the fleet of adaptive trail bikes as they had hoped to build (and still hope to do someday!) they were able to build the prototype bikes which enable people with disabilities to experience the outdoors in a way never before possible for them. Danny’s story convinced me of the incredible importance of our Extend Your Impact campaign and the goal of making sure each of our finalists receives a financial award.
We have six truly amazing finalists this year.
