The Challenge

In the heart of Over-the-Rhine, many families in affordable housing face more than financial hardship—they often lack access to tools that foster long-term stability and community pride.

The Transformation

With support from a 2024 Impact 100 grant, Cornerstone Renter Equity expanded its innovative savings and engagement program. Residents can now earn up to $2,000 annually in personal equity accounts by participating in community-building activities like neighborhood meetings, volunteering, youth engagement, and financial literacy.

But Cornerstone does more than help people earn—it empowers them to grow. The program’s redesigned structure shortens the timeline for accessing savings and supports a broader range of personal goals, from emergency needs to education and homeownership.

“Creating equity from the ground up.” Residents prepare for a community gathering supported by Impact 100 funding.

The Impact

  • Dozens of residents have used their savings to invest in education, start careers, pay off debt, and even purchase homes.
  • Families like Keisha’s have broken generational cycles—her Cornerstone savings helped her become a certified phlebotomist, buy a home, and support her daughter’s transition to independence.
  • Community pride has taken root. Residents now see themselves not just as tenants, but as contributors to a thriving neighborhood.
